Designer Mari Savio (born in Helsinki in 1972) lives in an old dairy in Lapinjärvi, where the well of her upbeat ideas never runs dry. Savio graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki and is the mother of two young daughters. She is well known for her designs, concepts and fashions for children and adults. Her collections cheerfully combine the aesthetics of the most exclusive design with flea-market treasures and all manner of humorous items. Savio’s work affirms that in a world overrun by hysterical consumption, small visual touches can cleanse the mind.
Savio and Kati Rapia joined forces and published their debut book in 2007: JUJU – Erilainen lastenvaatekirja (JUJU – A Different Kind of Childrenswear Book). It’s easy to fall under its spell at first sight. MAJA – Mielikuvituksellinen lastenhuonekirja (MAJA – The Book of Imaginative Children’s Rooms) followed in October 2008. It’s an inspiring book about how you can create fun games and exciting worlds in no time at all using found, recycled and easily available materials.
