Nowadays, life strongly revolves around the individual. A person must be primarily interested in their own self. Their duty is to present themselves and collect likes. A person’s success is entirely up to the person – as is their failure to succeed.
Many of the modern virtues used to be considered characteristic of narcissism. When an ordinary person tries to perform according to the prevailing, overtly individualistic ideals, they start to feel unwell. The people who suffer the most are the young whose challenges with their mental health have become alarmingly prevalent. At the same time, public spaces have become filled by a choir of brawlers shouting at each other, making cooperation difficult. How has it come to this?
