Their Teacher’s face is deathly pale, and his eyes are as big as an aye-aye’s, the most ghost-like animal the children know. To Ella and her friends, he looks exactly like someone who’s just seen one, a ghost, not an aye-aye.
“I’ve once seen five ghosts,” Pate announced.
“Have you really?” I asked in amazement.
“I have. It was when all my ghost mothers and fathers were visiting at the same time.”
“You probably mean your godmothers and godfathers,” Hanna said. She’s always the sensible one.
“Nope. They are proper ghosts. They laughed eerily all night, made really creepy sounds by clinking their glasses together, and they were all gone by the morning. ”
The children decide to find out what’s really going on with their beloved Teacher — and end up at the mysterious Grimhill Manor.
