Sinikka Nopola in Memoriam

Sinikka Nopola (1953-2020)

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Sinikka Nopola’s passing. The beloved and prolific Finnish author and journalist died on 13 January, after a prolonged illness.

Sinikka Nopola began her career as journalist at the biggest Finnish broadsheet Helsingin Sanomat. She became a freelance author and journalist in 1985. Sinikka is the author of around 80 bestselling books and numerous theatre and radio plays, as well as films, essays, short stories, and newspaper columns.

Along with her sister Tiina, Sinikka made a lasting impression on Finnish children’s culture with the immensely popular Ruby & Ficelle (Heinähattu ja Vilttitossu) and Wills & Nelli (Risto Räppääjä) series, of which several feature films have been made.

Sinikka will be greatly missed by all of us. We loved her quick and wonderfully dry wit, her imagination, and her kindness. We are grateful to have known her, and thankful for the wonderful stories she wrote. Her spirit will live on in her works and there’s no doubt that she’ll bring great joy to new generations.

Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
