After hearing a rumour that Tommo’s father might be alive in Valentia, Tommo, Hedda, Aasa and Jarek set sail to the land of the Vano. But Valentia is no safe haven: animagi are outlawed, and the four friends must keep their true nature hidden.
The long sea voyage gives them time to plan their next move, and things seem to fall into place when Hedda manages to get them all hired by the royal court. Yet beneath the palace’s gilded surface lurk dangerous secrets, and soon Tommo and his friends find themselves facing the greatest test of their lives.
