Every autumn, farmers in rural Iceland head to the mountains to gather sheep. But from a remote valley comes a different discovery: a corpse, its flesh picked at by ravens. One detail makes detective Hildur Rúnarsdóttir suspect murder. An observation by Aunt Tinna strengthens the suspicion — Hildur has crossed paths with the same perpetrator before. With Tinna’s help, the last secret of Hildur’s family comes to light.

In the midst of the murder investigation, Jakob is summoned to his home country to assist in a case linked to Iceland. A familiar figure from years past has reappeared. Jakob has also decided to close one door for good — a task that can only be done in Finland.
