Siiri and the Bold Rabbit

Siiri ja koppava kaniini

Siiri and Little Otto are excited to grow their very own carrots.

They carefully tend to their plants and eagerly wait for their crops to grow. But one morning, there’s a hole where there should be a carrot! The next morning, a second hole appears. Siiri and Little Otto camp out and spot a rabbit stealing their carrots, bold as anything. They try to shoo it away, but to no avail. Middle Otto and Big Otto also join in, but it seems that nothing can stop the thief.

What will happen when Siiri and the three Ottos build a scarecrow to frighten the rabbit? Will the rabbit run off to its burrow? Or is the rabbit even more clever than Siiri and her friends?

The characters found in the Siiri books are among the most loved in Finnish children’s literature. Siiri is an energetic little girl, and Little Otto, Middle Otto, and Big Otto are her best friends. The Siiri books, created by author Tiina Nopola (b. 1955) and illustrator Mervi Lindman (b. 1971), bring the everyday moments that mean so much to pre-school children to life.
