Siiri Finds a Seashell

Siiri löytää simpukan

Siri and Little Otto are building a sandcastle at the beach.

Middle Otto and Big Otto have new flippers and snorkels, and hit the waters boisterously.

“I don’t know how to dive,” Siri tells Little Otto. “I do!” says Little Otto and runs into the water with his float in hand. Siri thinks his diving looks a little strange. She begins to feel peeved when Middle Otto and Big Otto return to the surface to show off the underwater treasures they found. Siri decides to teach herself to dive as well.

The characters found in the Siiri books are among the most loved in Finnish children’s literature. Siiri is an energetic little girl, and Little Otto, Middle Otto, and Big Otto are her best friends. The Siiri books, created by author Tiina Nopola (b. 1955) and illustrator Mervi Lindman (b. 1971), bring the everyday moments that mean so much to pre-school children to life.
