Siiri and the Wild Toddler

Siiri ja villi taapero

When Siri’s mother takes Siri’s baby things to the flea market, Siri holds onto her old binkie for safekeeping.

Siri makes a suggestion to Little Otto: let’s dress you up like a baby, and I’ll push you around in your old stroller. Middle Otto and Big Otto mistake Little Otto for a real baby and have a good laugh.

When Middle Otto and Big Otto’s backs are turned, Little Otto leaps out of the stroller and runs around the corner. When Siri returns to find the stroller empty, the Ottos promise to find a replacement for the lost baby. Will Siri reveal who was really underneath the lace bonnet?

The characters found in the Siiri books are among the most loved in Finnish children’s literature. Siiri is an energetic little girl, and Little Otto, Middle Otto, and Big Otto are her best friends. The Siiri books, created by author Tiina Nopola (b. 1955) and illustrator Mervi Lindman (b. 1971), bring the everyday moments that mean so much to pre-school children to life.
